King of the Fishermen

William Wood Sir Ians grandfather starting Wood and Davidson in 1912 launching the Wood business Story. This could have remained an Oil & Gas Woodgroup Book, however throughout his life Sir Ian has always remained in the fishing Industry & to this day (2023) when most assume he has retired, works 7 days a week as CEO of JW Holdings, one of the largest independent fishing companies in the UK. Sir Ian was deeply involved in the family fishing business from the start of his life, and around the family dinner table when he was a boy were stories of fishing and the business of fishing. When he was around 12 years old, he saw his father take the stand in court in a major legal battle he fought against one of his own companies for refusing to pay for work on 2 Royal Navy ships being built in Montrose, he saw the Icelandic Cod wars, which saw Icelandic fisherman attack his father’s vessels and have his skippers arrested, he saw death and disaster with vessels lost at sea, and he saw the Introduction of EU fishing quotas, which decimated most of the UK fishing Industry and saw him have to sell and destroy most of the trawlers in his fleet. Sir Ian has had a huge impact on the UK Fishing Industry and been right at the heart of it since 1965, a large part of this book is dedicated to his time in the UK fishing Industry. However this book takes the life of Sir Ian to the present day, where his former company Woodgroup is in rumoured talks to be taken over by Oil Giant Sidara.
